da betway: According to Football Insider, Liverpool are in advanced talks to tie Harvey Elliott to a new three-year contract.
What’s the story?
da betsson: The 16-year-old signed for the Reds from Fulham last summer and has since appeared in all of the Reds’ fixtures in the League Cup and FA Cup bar one.
The teenager is not allowed to sign a professional contract until he turns 17, meaning that this deal is expected to be signed at the start of next month.
Priority
Elliott is already a Premier League record-breaker – he is the youngest-ever player to feature in the top flight. When Fulham went down, they were always going to struggle to keep him at Craven Cottage, and the Reds were there to pick up the pieces.

So far this season, he has shown plenty of promise on the right flank for Jurgen Klopp in the cups, and there has even been talk of him earning a call-up to the England U21 squad. This new contract is an absolute necessity – even more so than some of the eye-watering deals the Anfield outfit have been linked with.
Both Jadon Sancho and Kylian Mbappe are said to be on Liverpool’s radar – both would likely cost a huge sum of money, and maybe even twice as much in regards to the latter. Such deals, though, are not really the way Klopp does business.
Looking at the players he has signed, none were superstars – the likes of Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson came from Southampton and Hull City, for example – and he also has a history of using the younger players at his disposal – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mario Gotze, from his time at Borussia Dortmund, are two instances.
Under the 52-year-old’s influence, Elliott could grow into an important member of the first-team squad, and he is a player he already has at his disposal. Signing Mbappe and Sancho would be great for shirt sales, and they are both star footballers, but at the end of the day that is unlikely to be what Klopp wants.
Securing the future of Elliott and other rising stars within the Liverpool first team is a far more important focus. After all, Klopp already has a plethora of first-team stars at his disposal. He must consider what’s best for the club’s long-term future.
Elsewhere, Liverpool’s season could end up being anti-climatic.
