Wolves are having to endure a tough start to this season’s Premier League at the expense of making history by making the Europa League group stages.
Nuno Santo’s men are yet to win any of their six matches and have leaked 11 goals already – 23% of their total tally from last season.
One shining light could be the fact that they’ve lost only two of those matches, one of which was a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea.

There are problems all over the pitch for the Portuguese boss, but their best-ever finish of seventh last season was built on the pretence of a solid defensive foundation – last season they ranked joint-fourth for goals conceded.
Willy Boly has earned rave reviews from fans and his absense against Chelsea contributed to Frank Lampard’s men running riot, but captain Conor Coady has also set a poor example at times, as we’ve previously discussed. Ryan Bennett even made an individual error against Braga.
Romain Saiss and Jesus Vallejo were among those in the defence against the Blues and proved they weren’t up to scratch while Max Kilman, who has only featured in one Europa League qualifier, hasn’t been given too much of a chance to prove himself.
Might they have a solution heading into the future under their nose?
Cameron John has impressed out on loan with Doncaster Rovers as they sit on the cusp of a playoff position, sitting seventh in League One having lost just once this season.
The south Yorkshire club, led by former West Brom manager Darren Moore, have the second-best defence in the league and John has played six of their eight matches.
The 20-year-old has contributed to two clean sheets and has even scored a goal while also recording 4 clearances, 1.5 tackles and 3.8 successful aerial duels per game, all via WhoScored.
His dominant defensive performances have not only earned the acclaim of being one of the fans’ favourites, but a couple of Premier League rivals have been keeping an eye on him, including Leicester City and Crystal Palace, per the Daily Mail.
That shows that potential is definitely there and he could play a major role in shoring up their defence if problems persist beyond this season – that’s if he’s still at the club, however.
John’s contract expires at the end of the season, so Wolves need to act quickly on whether they see him breaking into the first team fold anytime soon – they’d be wise to based on their woes in recent weeks.
