da bet nacional: Manchester United should make a move for Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa to compete with Luke Shaw for the left-back position at Old Trafford.
What’s the word, then?
Against Fulham last time out, Shaw was injured, meaning that utility man Ashley Young had to fill in on the left side of defence. Whilst he did manage to score, the utility man will never be a long-term option to provide competition to the former Southampton defender in that position – Jose Mourinho has no natural left-back to choose from other than Shaw.
Of course Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian can be deployed in that position, but similarly to the 33-year-old Young, neither are a natural choice for the role. If you chuck in the fact that Shaw can be quite injury prone, and at risk of being used as Mourinho’s scapegoat once more, the Red Devils could do with a left-back to cover him.
Who could they get in?
One man who has supposedly been in the sights of the English giants already in recent months is PSG’s Kurzawa, according to Paris United.
The Frenchman is yet to play under Thomas Tuchel since the former Borussia Dortmund manager took over in the summer, as he continues his recovery from back surgery.
Kurzawa is an accomplished France international who is known for his influence at the top end of the pitch, often being involved in the attack by contributing goals or assists. In 26 appearances last season in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, the 26-year-old scored five goals and set up three more.
Additionally, in the group stages of the latter competition last season, Kurzawa became the first defender in modern day Champions League history to score a hat-trick, notching a treble against Belgian side Anderlecht.
He would most certainly add a new dimension to United’s left flank; also, a left-sided partnership with fellow Frenchman Anthony Martial could be one of the Premier League’s best.
