da pinnacle: Gennaro Gattuso would be “delighted” to return to Glasgow Rangers as manager according to Napoli assistant manager Luigi Riccio.
da pinup bet: The former Gers midfielder is currently the boss with the Partonopei, with the club just having won the Coppa Italia after beating Juventus on penalties. This comes after two years spent at AC Milan, where he spent 13 years as a player.
Talking to The Sunday Post (via The Herald), 42-year-old Riccio spoke about the pair’s future, and he explained:
“We are professionals, we evaluate the job, and the offers. We are always ready for new challenges.
“In my opinion, Rino would be a perfect fit for the English Premier League.
“And, of course, I think I can say with certainty that Rino would be delighted if he could return to Rangers as a coach in the future.
“It is no secret the club is close to his heart.
“When Rino remembers his time at Ibrox and the games he played, the emotion is clear to see in his eyes.”
Gattuso spent just over a year at the club from July 1997 to October 1998, but even though he managed less than 50 starts for the club, his passion and fight on the pitch endeared him to the Gers supporters. Clearly, he had talent, with Salernitana spending £4.18m to take him back to his homeland.
Having now secured a first major trophy as manager, his stock is only going to rise, and so he may soon already become too big for the Gers as a manager. Still, if he were to make the return, it would be easy to imagine the Gers supporters welcoming him with open arms.
