da leao: Japhet Tanganga’s emergence at Spurs could have put Jose Mourinho in a new light. For once, the Portuguese was handing regular minutes to a youth player.
da mrbet: However, despite that, Mourinho’s biggest flaw is now shinning through in rather bizarre circumstances. Should we expect anything less from one of the most polarising figures in world football? Probably not.
The man in question here is Troy Parrott. Despite injuries to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, the Republic of Ireland youth international is still struggling for game time. He was given a mini-cameo off the bench last weekend but he still won’t even start against Norwich in the FA Cup.
This would have been a brilliant chance for the 18-year-old to prove his worth, to show what he’s capable of at senior level.
After all, the forward has been in blistering form for the U23s. He scored for the youth side on Monday to take his tally for the season in all competitions to 11.
Mourinho issued a rallying cry to the striker this week, suggesting he needed to take inspiration from Scott McTominay.
The young Scot broke through under the ex-Manchester United boss when he was at Old Trafford, but in truth, Parrott is in danger of fading away into the background. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing given how some of Mourinho’s rejects have turned out, but it’s a warning that Spurs have a player who could slip through the net.
Hyped up by fellow Irishman Robbie Keane, the teenager is clearly a player with immense talent, but the current Spurs boss is no stranger to disregarding promising individuals.
Kevin De Bruyne was afforded just nine games under Mourinho at Chelsea before becoming a title winner with Manchester City while Romelu Lukaku earned as few as three outings under his stewardship in west London.
On top of that, Mo Salah played only 19 times for Chelsea and Leonardo Bonucci failed to play a single match under Mourinho at Inter Milan. He has since become a brick wall in Serie A for Juventus.
That’s not to say that Parrott will end up as good as those players but it’s a reminder of what can happen when the 57-year-old ignores a club’s best prospect.
Money talks: How much did Levy pay for each of these Spurs stars?
The Spurs prodigy is among the very best youngsters at the club and without first-team chances, he will fail to cut the mustard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. If he isn’t getting matches with Kane out injured, it seems difficult to envisage him ever getting a true opportunity.
Mourinho needs to be careful – his biggest flaw is starting to emerge once again.
In other news, Spurs have been BACKED into a transfer corner with Harry Kane…
