da realsbet: Coming into the 2020/21 season, there was some slight confusion surrounding the future of Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth.
da imperador bet: The Norwegian striker, signed from FC Midtjylland in January 2018, appeared the perfect solution to the Eagles’ striker conundrum. He was fresh off the back of a lethal season in which he netted 33 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.
Meanwhile, Palace’s top-scoring striker Jordan Ayew had only managed to get on the scoresheet nine times in the Premier League throughout 2019/20, so Sorloth’s eye for goal would certainly have been useful.
It was somewhat of a surprise, then, to see the Eagles accept an £18m bid from RB Leipzig as the German outfit sought a replacement for the Chelsea-bound Timo Werner.
It is a transfer which now seems a masterstroke from Steve Parish and the Crystal Palace hierarchy.
Sorloth has found life a lot more difficult in the Bundesliga, only managing to score four times so far, taking him until January to net his first league goal. Nonetheless, it is still a marked improvement on just the solitary goal that he scored in his time at Selhurst Park.
For context, the fee that the Eagles banked for Sorloth was the third-highest that the club had received in their history; only being eclipsed by Yannick Bolasie’s move to Everton in 2016 and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s big-money transfer to Manchester United nearly two years ago.
In a market which has been devastated by the financial affects of the global pandemic, Palace have actually done remarkably to make a significant profit on a player signed for just £9m 18 months prior.
Capped 28 times by Norway at the age of 25, Sorloth is certainly still capable of having a productive career, but the Eagles will be delighted that their decision to sell him was not tinged by confusion.
