da bet7: With only several games left of the Premier League season it’s time to divide opinion amongst us fans with the inaugural team of the season. Although the league has been accused of lacking quality this year, there are still a large number of top performers, except the house hold names like Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres and the like not hitting form as expected.
da 888: It has allowed other players to shine and reap the rewards of being listed in these ‘team of the year’ articles across the internet. Surprisingly, one position that usually comes easy in picking players is that of the striker, but the Premier League has certainly missed some top in form goal scorers over the current campaign.
Whether this is due to the change in football philosophy of the 4-5-1 system being more common than the now outdated 4-4-2, remains to be concluded. But with Andy Carroll still in the top goal scorers of the season despite being injured for a large part of the year proves there is a lack of quality strikers OR defences and midfields in the top flight have just got stronger.
For my Team of the Season, I have decided to use a 4-5-1-come-4-3-3 formation to make sure the right players are picked. Having more than one striker seems a waste, especially as it was hard enough trying to shortlist worthy contestants to play up front in this team.
Of course there will be a subs bench for those who didn’t make it into the first team and also a few reserve players who’ve impressed for some part of the season and deserve a mention at the least.
